How do I apply to the National Merit Scholars Program at UT Dallas?
Students do not apply to the National Merit Scholars Program in the traditional sense. In order to join the program, you must be recognized as a National Merit Finalist by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. You should receive this notification in the spring of your senior year in high school. You must also list UT Dallas as your first choice school in your National Merit Scholarship Application.
When do I apply to CV?
If you are a National Merit Finalist, you are automatically eligible to join Collegium V: please email firstname.lastname@example.org and indicate you are a National Merit Finalist and would like to join Collegium V.
What is the deadline for admission into the National Merit Scholars Program at UT Dallas?
The National Merit Scholars Program at UT Dallas uses the national deadlines provided by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. For a detailed schedule of the various deadlines and the application process, please visit our list of important dates.
I listed another school as my first choice school. Can I change it?
Yes. If you listed another school as your first choice school, you may change your selection and select UT Dallas as your first choice. To do so, log in to NMSC's Online Scholarship Application (https://osa.nationalmerit.org/) and click on the "Change College Choice" link under the menu item "Maintain Your Personal Information After Your Application is Transmitted to NMSC".
May I discuss the National Merit Scholarship Program with someone while visiting the campus?
We encourage you to learn more about the National Merit Scholars Program at UT Dallas and visit our campus. National Merit Scholars Program Preview events, held throughout the spring semester for National Merit Finalists and their guests, will allow you to experience campus and meet your future colleagues. We welcome you to join faculty and students from the Honors College as well as department heads and faculty from all academic programs in a fun and informative look at life as a UT Dallas Scholar. Attendees will participate in a number of engaging activities and gain valuable insight from student leaders.
I have been accepted to UT Dallas with a merit-based Academic Excellence Scholarship. Does this mean I am admitted to the National Merit Scholars Program?
No. The National Merit Scholars Program is independent of the Academic Excellence Scholarship program. Students admitted to UT Dallas are automatically considered for the Academic Excellence Scholarship without an additional application. To join the National Merit Scholars Program, students must be National Merit Finalists as designated by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Does UT Dallas offer National Merit housing?
Honors Housing gives you the opportunity to live, study, and socialize with other Honors students. National Merit Scholars and Collegium V Honors Students are all eligible to live in the honors community. Rather than clustering students by major or career interest, honors housing brings together students with bright minds, who are pursuing academic excellence, and of course, have a desire to have fun as well. As a National Merit Scholar, you will automatically be placed in Honors Housing unless you indicate either that you would prefer to live in a (http://www.utdallas.edu/livinglearning) or would like to opt out of Honors Housing. Honors Housing is located in Residence Hall South which is conveniently located next to academic buildings. Whether you choose to live in an LLC, Honors Housing, or elsewhere, you will still be welcome to attend all Honors events that happen in Residence Hall South. Both Honors Housing and LLCs are located in University Commons and therefore eligible for the $1,500 per semester on-campus housing stipend.
I am a National Merit Finalist and I have been admitted to the Terry Scholars Program or the McDermott Scholars Program. Does that mean that I will receive both scholarships?
The Terry Scholars Program, the Eugene McDermott Scholars Program and the National Merit Scholars Program provide more than just financial support. You may participate in multiple programs, however you will only receive financial support from one program.
I have been admitted to the National Merit Scholarship Program at UT Dallas. Does that mean I am automatically a member of the Collegium V Honors Program?
Yes. If you would like to participate in the Collegium V Honors Program, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and indicate you are a National Merit Finalist and would like to join Collegium V.
When does CV begin admitting students?
We will begin notifying students of their admission status in early March. If you are a National Merit Finalist, you are automatically eligible to join Collegium V: please email email@example.com and indicate you are a National Merit Finalist and would like to join Collegium V.
