Hobson Wildenthal Honors College at UT Dallas

UT Dallas Destination Imagination

UTD Destination Imagination is a year-long academic project where students work on teams to create an innovative solution to a problem. The solution is theatrically presented during competitions at the state and global levels. Students can choose between 7 different problems that vary in focus from the theater arts to technical ability. UTD DI fields up to one team per problem/challenge.

The DI season begins in September when the challenges are published. Teams start by brainstorming, team building, and learning fundamental technical theater skills throughout the fall semester. In the spring, the teams collaborate, create, assess, and revise their solution. In April, they compete at the State Competition and in late May at Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee.

DI aims to provide UT Dallas students opportunities to collaboratively solve problems while incorporating STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) skills.

Professional Skills

Our students learn persistence, flexibility, patience, public speaking, respect for others and their ideas, and the problem solving process in an intellectually-stimulating environment.
